Purchase the Grimms' Fairy Tales Faction on Forgefire! (link coming soon)

From the woodlands and cottages of Germany come the tales of the Brothers Grimm. From classics such as Hansel and Gretel, to really bizarre stuff like a sentient sausage, you’ll be able to bring the stories to life. Minions who work better when their tales are complete just might mean two little kids with pretzels might bring down a Zombie Lord or Ninja Master.

Grimms' Fairy Tales are from the World Tour: Culture Shock set and do not have a Titan card.

Complexity Level: MEDIUM
Mechanics
  • Unique Minions
  • Specific Pairs Of Minions

Most of their minions are part of a pair and their abilities activate only when they are on the same base as their partner. For example, Hansel and Gretel each gain +2 power if they are on the same base, or Prince Charming's and Charming Princess's talents become useable if they are on the same base. They also have Grimms’ Blessing whose unique ability is to have the name of every minion you own, therefore easily substituting for any missing partner of those pairs. In contrast, Red Riding Hood and Big Bad Wolf form an antagonistic pair with each one being better played while the other isn't in play.

In order to help you, the Grimms’ Fairy Tales have several cards that allow them to search for any cards or retrieve minions from the deck or discard pile.

Strategy
Synergy
  • Tricksters: Leprechaun makes it hard for other players to build up on a base, allowing you to set up relatively safely there with Grimms minions. The Frog Prince can even get Leprechaun back to stall a second base. Enshrouding Mist lets you play extra minions, making it easy to rush out pairs of Grimms minions.
  • Mythic Horses: Grimms encourages you to pair up specific minions, which plays into Mythic Horses' friendship theme nicely.
  • Masters of Evil: Absorbing Man mentions itself, allowing you to fetch a second using Teamwork. The Big Bad Wolf isn't a bad target for Acceptable Losses.
  • Aladdin: Palace Guard mentions itself, allowing you to fetch more using Teamwork.
  • Beauty and the Beast: Belle and Beast mention each other, making it easy to bring them together with Teamwork.
  • Frozen: Many of Frozen's characters mention each other by name, allowing them to be fetched with Teamwork. Grimms' Blessing can enable their effects even if you for some reason don't have them on the same base. Reindeer Are Better Than People can fetch and play The Frog Prince, Red Riding Hood, or Rumpelstiltzkin.
  • The Lion King: Mufasa shows up in in the text of a lot of cards in this faction, including Simba and Zazu, making him easier to fetch using Teamwork. Scar is another means by which you can destroy The Big Bad Wolf, who himself can easily destroy a Lion Cub. Lion Cubs can fetch minions of power 4 or less, making it that much easier to set up specific pairs or to access the useful effects of Grimms' power-3 minions.

Power 5 - If the minion Red Riding Hood isn’t in play, you may destroy a minion here of power 4 or less. Ongoing: After this minion is destroyed, play another minion from your discard pile here as an extra minion.

Clarifications:

  • Because these say “the minion X” they ignore Grimms’ Blessing when determining how they work, since it is not a minion even if it also has the name “X”.

2x Grimms' Blessing

Play on a base. Ongoing: If you have two or more minions here, treat this card as if it also has the names of every minion you own. Using this ability does not count as using any minion’s ability. Errata? Yes/No

Clarifications:

  • If triggered, this card’s presence counts for triggering or benefitting from other cards at its base. (Examples: It counts as Hansel for Gretel or as Prince Charming for Charming Princess; Microbot Fixer would give it +1 power; it would give another +1 to War Raptors but not get power from them since it doesn’t have their ability.) This card doesn’t prevent cards with limits on how often they are used (like Shinobi) from using their own abilities. See also the entry on Big Bad Wolf above.
